Strandhotel Burgstaller in winter - sun on the snow-covered facade by Lake Brennsee
Activities · Winter

The lake goes quiet, the house stays warm

Skiing in Bad Kleinkirchheim, ice skating right outside the door when it gets cold enough - and a hotel that is open in winter.

In summer, Lake Brennsee is loud and busy. In winter, the opposite happens: the village goes quiet, the lake lies still, and the mountains all around take on a colour of their own. We are open all year round - even when the sun loungers have long been put away.

Winter special

Winter special by the lake

3 nights in a lake-view double room, All Inclusive Light, wellness and ski bus - 19-24 Dec 2026 and 4-10 Jan 2027, from € 315 per person.

Right outside the house

Winter begins on the jetty.

When Lake Brennsee freezes over, the jetty becomes a terrace: a glass on the ice, tracks in fresh snow, the dog in its coat leading the way. And some guests even go into the water in winter - voluntarily.

Skiing

Bad Kleinkirchheim is our ski resort

The slopes of Bad Kleinkirchheim aren't right on the doorstep, but close enough for a relaxed day of skiing. A ski bus runs during the winter season - so you don't necessarily need your own car. Equipment is available from the rental shops on site, and if you'd like lessons, the Sportschule Kreiner is a well-established address. We'll gladly tell you the exact timetable and conditions once your dates are fixed - they change from season to season.

Ice skating

When Lake Brennsee freezes over

In cold winters, Lake Brennsee freezes solid - and the swimming lake in front of the house turns into a sheet of ice. That's the moment our regulars come back for. To be honest: we can't guarantee it. Whether and when the ice is safe is decided by the weather, not by us. Ask us shortly before you arrive and we'll tell you how things look.

Tobogganing when the day is almost over

There are several toboggan runs in the region, some of them floodlit in the evening. It's the kind of afternoon you don't plan and yet remember the longest - especially when the sauna is waiting afterwards.

Cross-country skiing

Trails instead of lifts

If you're not looking for the bustle of the slopes, you'll find groomed cross-country trails around Bad Kleinkirchheim and in the Nock Mountains. Quieter, cheaper and, for many, the nicer way to experience winter.

The Nock Mountains can be explored under snow too - on snowshoes you reach the places where the hiking trails run in summer. And where it's busy in summer, you're often on your own in winter.

To be honest

Who winter here is right for - and who it isn't

We don't claim that Lake Brennsee is the perfect place for every winter holiday. In our magazine we've written down where the strengths lie and where the limits are - so that you know before booking, not afterwards.
